Understanding Diversity Certificate Series

This series is designed to offer participants an in-depth opportunity to examine the many difference that exist in our community and to gain a greater understanding of how we can work together to create a bias-free environment. 

Cross-Cultural Competency Certificate Series

This series explores the rich dynamics of cross-cultural interactions and provides participants with knowledge and skill to increase their effectiveness in relating across cultural differences.

Preparing for Supervision Certificate Series

The series uses a blended learning approach combining instructor-led and e-learning courses. In addition, you will work on your individual development plan as you work on your transition from an individual contributor role to one of supervisor.

Developing as a Supervisor Certificate Series

An effective supervisor models excellent interpersonal communication; inspires a common vision; demonstrates respect for a diverse community; encourages teamwork and collaboration; and coaches, evaluates and develops people in alignment with our university vision. A decision maker, problem solver, conflict manager, coach, motivator—these are some of the many roles a supervisor will assume. Designed for new-to-role supervisors, this series integrates the essential aspects of supervision at UC Davis.

Mastering Supervision Certificate Series

One of the most remarkable characteristics of our campus community is the caliber and commitment of its supervisors who play a most critical role in achieving excellence at UC Davis. This series offers a combination of core courses and electives tailored to experienced supervisors’ needs.

Advising International Students Certificate Series

This series is for department staff, advisors and administrators who work with international students. The goal of the series is to give staff an overview of the international student population, the challenges faced by international students, the requirements that students must meet to stay in legal immigration status, and the basics of intercultural communication as it relates to the international student population.

International Scholar Services Certificate Series

This series is for department contacts and other administrators who work with international scholars.  The goal of this series is to familiarize staff on the main campus and at the UC Davis Medical Center with basic immigration rules and regulations, as well as the forms, policies and procedures involved in hosting and/or employing international (non-immigrant) scholars.

Living the Principles of Community Online Course

This course is designed to promote inclusiveness and respect in the work and learning environment at UC Davis, introducing the concepts to new members of the campus community while reinforcing them to existing members. Participants will become familiar with ways to integrate the UC Davis Principles of Community into their own workplaces and classrooms. This highly interactive course includes up-to-date information on discrimination, sexual harassment, affirmative action and diversity along with the University’s policies governing these issues. Through realistically subtle and complex scenarios, learners discover that there is more than one “right” way of preventing, managing and resolving conflicts related to these topics. This course will inform and equip participants with essential knowledge and skills, ultimately resulting in fewer such conflicts, improved morale, decreased institutional liability, and a more respectful and inclusive campus environment.

Is It Bullying? Awareness and Strategies Course

The objectives of this course are to increase awareness and understanding about bullying and other forms of abrasive behaviors in the workplace, become familiar with the policies and resources related to bullying and other forms of abrasive behavior, learn skills for responding to abrasive behaviors in the workplace, examine one’s own behavior (self-reflection) that impacts interaction with colleagues and workplace climate, and explore strategies for empowering ourselves and others in cultivating inclusive work environments. Throughout the course, participants will have the opportunity to discuss hypothetical workplace case studies and apply various proactive and response strategies to these cases.
