History

The UCD Veteran Constituency Group (VCG) effort was initiated in late summer 2013 as a subcommittee of the Affirmative Action subcommittee of University of California, Davis’s Staff Diversity Administrative Advisory Committee (SDAAC), led by Maxine Rogers (Central HR) and Sara Reed (Shared Services Center).  The Charge of SDAAC includes reviewing the UCD Annual Affirmative Action plan and making recommendations to human resources regarding programs and activities for staff.  As SDAAC became more knowledgeable about the increasing staff and student veteran population the group took steps to ensure the campus community was inclusive and welcoming of Veterans.

In response to the Affirmation Action Staff Personnel Plan, the Affirmative Action subcommittee developed an outreach plan and presented to SDAAC.  The outreach plan focused on employment and educational opportunities for veterans on the UC Davis Campus.  To assist in addressing the needs of Veterans the Affirmative Action subcommittee recommended that a Veterans Subcommittee be created by SDAAC.

A group of individuals, both supporters and veterans, worked diligently for over a year to become a recognized constituent group and were recognized on November 19, 2014 .   The initial group includes veterans, currently serving Reserve individuals, military family members, and supporters of veterans and military members and have supported current efforts on campus in support of students and staff recruitment.
