Principles of Community Celebration: "Re-Affirming Our Principles of Community" |
| In 1990, UC Davis and the City of Davis respectively formulated a statement of Principles of Community to confirm each institutions commitment to providing an environment of civility, appreciation for diversity and respect for the personal dignity inherent in all of us. The Davis Joint Unified School District joined both institutions in a community commitment to confront all manifestations of discrimination and to build a more inclusive community. Some of the challenges confronting our community in 1990 are still evident today, but our commitment to these principles remains strong and is essential to the success of our diverse and multi-cultural community. The leadership of all three institutions have come together to publicly re-affirm our commitment to these principles. We ask the community to join with us in our effort to provide a community environment that promotes freedom of expression, encourages critical and constructive interactions, celebrates our differences, confronts acts of discrimination and appreciates the value of diversity, all within the highest standards of mutual respect and civility. |
